On 4th April, 1915, the 2nd Yorkshire Light Infantry battalion of 13 Brigade, 5th Division moved into trenches at Verbranden Molen near Hill 60, just to the south of Ypres. They were relieved on 6th April and three companies moved back to support dugouts while D Company and battalion HQ moved to Ypres. At 8am on 7th April, a shell hit battalion HQ and exploded in the kitchen there killing James King and one other. |
